WELCOME
Anne Bekker, Special Populations Coach with the Office of High School Teaching and Learning, has been tentatively assigned to SOE on Tuesdays and Thursdays. She will support out SPED Team. Ms. Bekker served on our accreditation team last year.

Support our Seniors: FINAL GAME
In light of the recent violence occurring across the city during sports activities, schools are tightening security measures to maintain student safety. Consequently, no student spectators will be allowed to attend the last basketball game of the season. Ms. Megan Flickinger, Athletic Director for the Campus, is encouraging all teachers to support Seniors in the final game of their high school years. Only uniformed athletes, specific parents, coaches, and faculty will be admitted. Check the Athletic Schedule for the details.

Classwork and In-School
In-School needs teacher support if it is to continue to operate. Students must receive assignments for the day(s) assigned. This is so vital.

Acknowledgement and Reminder
During the disruption that occurred on the 2nd floor last week, teachers assertively contained their classes and kept them from converging on the halls. Others made certain to write Misconduct Reports for the unmanageable few. Way to go!

Please facilitate traffic during passing periods –every passing period, everyday.

IMPACT Grade Book
SOE teachers are required to enter grades in Grade Book weekly. Expect that a formal schedule is forthcoming.

Mrs. Jihan has volunteered to directly assist teachers who are still striving to learn the intricacies of Grade Book. Dr. Edwards will support this teacher responsibility by providing extended-day opportunities, i.e., compensation. Mr. Olson and Ms. Jordan are available, also.

SOE’s space #4 will be “open” Wednesday through Friday of this week (only).

TO THE STUDENTS WHO ATTENDED THE INAUGURATION: New Due Date
I am interested in hearing the students’ voices.  Share your account of this memorable experience in a two-page, typed essay, free of spelling and grammatical errors, and join me on another fieldtrip. Write about a personal highlight that you experienced. It must be in my office by Friday, January 30, 2009, at 3:00 p.m. Give me your finest work!

TO THE STUDENTS WHO COMPLETED WINTER BREAK HOMEWORK
Dr. Edwards will reach out to you within the next couple of weeks to participate in a planning session for the promised trip!

Nothing stops the man who desires to achieve. Every obstacle is simply a course to develop his achievement muscle. It’s a strengthening of his powers of accomplishment. - Eric Butterworth

IMPACT Grade Book
As of today, parents and students will be able to review attendance and grades online. SOE teachers are required to enter grades in Grade Book weekly. Expect that a formal schedule is forthcoming.

Area 25 Reading Assessment Project
Our Junior TCT, along with TCTs from SOL and SOT, participated in a fish bowl activity last Friday in the north building. Having completed the first round of student testing and received the data from that session, our TCT is collaborating around strategies to improve instruction. On February 5th, several of our colleagues will join SOL and SOT, once more, for a cooperative PD. This data-driven initiative has been adopted by Team Englewood, World Language, B.E.S.T, Chicago Discovery Academy, and Global Vision, as well.
